Met Gala 2013

Autumn of MyNameNecklace here to sum up my personal favorite night of the year, the Oscars of the fashion world, the Met Gala! For those of you not in the know, the Met Gala, or formally known as the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.

Every an exhibit that is opened has a theme, and this year's theme is Punk: Chaos to Couture.

A lot of the guests of the event were inspired by the punk theme. The hottest celebrities gathered in New York for this event, let's take a look at the best and work looks of the night.

Emma Watson in Prabal Gurung
Emma Watson is my personal favorite celebrity, so she can almost never fail in my eyes. She stuns in this simple yet elegantly sexy dress custom made by Prabal Gurung. I absolutely love it!! I also like the look of the one dangling earring. A touch of edge for the punk themed night.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Jennifer Lawrence looking fabulously fifties with a netting piece on her face. Gorgeous as always!

Claire Danes in Oscar de la Renta
Claire Danes looks gorgeous in her Oscar de la Renta dress! But her hair didn't really match with the style of  the dress, nevertheless she looked really great!

Florence Welch in Givenchy
Florence Welch always knows how to bring on to the drama, and she didn't fail in this gorgeous Givenchy gown.

Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino
Anne Hathaway loves Valentino and Valentino love Anne. She looks amazing in this dress though it could do with out the feather on the sleeves and I really dislike her newly blonde hair. Go back to being the beautiful brunette you are!

Beyonce in Givenchy
I'm really disappointed in Beyonce, last year she wore a show-stopping Givenchy gown but this year she fell short of that. I did not like her gown and especially not the matching boots. Maybe next time.

Emmy Rossum in Donna Karan Atelier
Emmy Rossum looked superb in Donna Karan Atelier. She went for a look perfect for the night - glamorous punk.

Amber Heard in Emilio Pucci
Amber Heard is looking red hot in this Emilio Pucci gown.

Kate Bosworth in Balmain
Huge fan of Kate Bosworth's style and she did not disappoint in this stunning Balmain mini-dress.

Allison Williams in Altuzarra
Allison Williams usually has pretty boring style so I'm happy when she goes a little edgy. I really like this Altuzarra gown!

Diane Kruger in Chanel
Diane Kruger is another style favorite of mine. She looks lovely in Chanel with her pink-dipped hair and love, Joshua Jackson, by her side.

Gwyenth Paltrow in Valentino
I'm sick from the sugary sweetness of this bubble gum pink dress worn by Gwyenth Paltrow. This dress is awful, this amount of pink can never be good. What was she thinking?

Nicole Richie in Topshop
Nicole Richie's dress is nice but I can't even concentrate on it because of her hair!!! What is that? It's all the wrong shades of grey, no matter that everyone is saying it's great.

Karlie Kloss in Louis Vuitton
I really didn't like this dress when I first saw it on Kate Moss on the runway but if anyone can pull a runway dress off it's Karlie Kloss. Still don't love it, but the styling here is much better.

Jessica Biel in Giambattista Valli
Even it's a bit on the quirky side I really love this Giambattista Valli worn by Jessica Biel.

Rooney Mara in Givenchy
Rooney Mara was bound to wear Givenchy as she was co-chair with Riccardo Tisci, the head designer of Givenchy. But she looked fabulous in this custom made gown.

Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs
EWWW. I'm sorry I know Miley Cyrus was going for the whole nineties punk era theme but NO. She does not look good.

Michelle Dockery in Burberry
Michelle Dockery looks amazing in Burberry, but it was bit on the boring side. The Met Gala is all about high glamour and she looks like she's going out for a nice dinner.

Lena Dunham in Erdem (with the designer)
Lena Dunham's Erdem dress is okay, and her hair and makeup is really beautiful, but I don't think the dress was very flattering on her.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles
Sarah Jessica Parker is the queen of the Met Ball and certainly turned heads in her Philip Treacy headpiece and Giles dress. Like the dress, not so much the headpiece.

Sienna Miller in Burberry
Sienna Miller wins for perfect combination of punk and glamour with this amazing Burberry leather jacket and gown. I also LOVE the studded headband.

Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier
Can I just say that if Nina Dobrev's gown was an actual dress I would like it, or even if it was just the pant part with out the overlay.. Like this? Don't like it so much..

Jennifer Morrison in Donna Karan Atelier
Another beautiful gown by Donna Karan Atelier worn by Jennifer Morrison. Didn't love the hair though.

Cara Delevingne in Burberry
Model Cara Delevingne looked absolutely amazing in this custom made Burberry gown. This was definitely one of my favorite outfits of the night. I'm a sucker for studded things and Burberry!

How to Select the Perfect Flowers for Mom!

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. Have you purchased your mom a gift yet? Mother’s jewelry  is extremely popular, including Family Heart Necklace and Family Tree Necklace. But aside from a necklace for mom, one of the most treasured gifts is a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Aside from looking beautiful, flowers require some thought and many flowers carry a lot of symbolism that can mean so much on this special day. Favorite colors and flowers are always a good place to start when creating the perfect Mother’s Day flower bouquet, but here are some other ideas as well!

Flowers and a Monogram Necklace are a perfect combination!
Roses are the quintessential flower to add to any bouquet. Roses were sacred to Isis, a Greek Goddess said to be the ideal mom. Therefore, roses have always been associated with Mother’s Day.

Irises symbolize warmth and affection, two qualities all moms have. The blue and white irises tend to be the most popular for Mother’s Day.

Lilacs are always an elegant choice to add to any bouquet. They symbolize the love between a mother and her child, making them the perfect option.

Orchids symbolize beauty and refinement, and in Chinese culture, they also symbolize many children.

Lilies, while often earmarked for Easter bouquets, are used a lot for Mother’s Day flowers as well, especially white lilies and calla lilies.

Tulips are associated with spring and new life. They are considered to be graceful flowers known for their multitude of colors and beauty. They are a great option for a pretty flower and because they come in a variety of colors, you can definitely choose the color your mom likes.

Carnations, especially the pink ones, according to Christian legend, are said to have first started growing in the location where the Virgin Mary cried over the death of Jesus. Therefore, it is said that carnations symbolize the eternal love a mother has for her children. Today, it is very common to see Mother’s Day flowers consist of carnations of not just pink but other soft colors as well.

There are many other flowers to select from as well. Gladioluses symbolize strength of character, sunflowers represent adoration, and camellias symbolize graciousness. For many years, flowers are the best way to convey a message of love to a mother. No matter how big or small the bouquet is, as long as you put a bit of thought into it, she is sure to love it!

Women Who Shaped Women’s History – Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney
+Stella McCartney  was born in 1971 to well-known parents – Sir Paul McCartney, former member of the Beatles, and Linda McCartney, an American photographer as well as activist for animal rights.

Interested in fashion at a young age, Stella interned for Christian Lacroix while studying fashion design at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design. Soon after graduating, she received her first job at the ChloĆ© fashion house in Paris, France, taking over Karl Lagerfeld’s position.

It wasn’t until 2001 that Stella started her hour fashion house under a joint venture with PPR Luxury Group (formally known as Gucci Group). Currently, Stella owns 17 stores around the globe, including London, Paris, Milan, Rome, Manhattan, and West Hollywood.

But it isn’t just clothing Stella is interested in! In 2003, she created her first perfume, aptly named “Stella.” And in 2007, her organic skincare line, CARE, was launched. In 2008 she launched a new lingerie line, and in 2010 she launched a collection for children up to the age of twelve.

Stella has also worked on a number of collaborations, including Madonna’s Re-Invention Tour in 2004 and the costumes for Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow’s characters in the 2004 movie “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.”  She also has a partnership with Adidas to create a women’s sports performance clothing collection. Other collaborations include H&M, Target Australia, LeSportsac, team Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics, and Disney to create a jewelry collection inspired by “Alice in Wonderland.”

Stella has received numerous accolades for her work in not only fashion but also social awareness. In 2000, she received the VH1/Vogue Designer of the Year Award, which was presented to her by her father. In 2003 she received the Woman of Courage Award for her work with cancer awareness. She has also received the Best Designer of the Year Award from Glamour (2004), the Organic Style Women of the Year Award (2005), the Elle Style Award for Best Designer of the Year (2007), and the Green Designer of the Year in 2008 at the ACE Awards, among other notable honors. One of the biggest honors she received came this year when she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for her services in fashion.

And she manages to do this with four small children!

Let’s give a shout to Stella McCartney, another great woman we are happy to celebrate this month!

Note: This is the third part of our series celebrating Women’s Month. Each week we will feature a woman who has helped pave the way as strong and independent role models.

Top Ten Reasons Why it’s Good to be a Woman!

Let’s face it, being a woman is awesome! Aside from having a day set in the calendar to recognize our awesomeness, women are known for living longer, being better leaders, and having much better communication skills then our male counterparts. We can also cry out of speeding tickets, get a taxi to stop for us quicker and we know the proper way to conceal a breakout. Chocolate solves all problems when you are a woman, we do not mind asking for directions when we are lost, and a new shade of lipstick can give us a brand new lease on life. Here are some more great reasons why it is so great to be a woman!

1) Women can buy as much jewelry as we want and change it up how we see fit. Your afternoon outfit looks great with a name necklace, but to dress up your LBD at night, a gold XXL Monogram Necklace is the perfect fit!

 2) Female book heroines tend to kick more ass than then the other sex – names like Hermione Granger, Katniss Everdeen, and Sookie Stackhouse come to mind. (Not to mention Nancy Drew; she was always a better mystery solver than the Hardy Boys.)

3) Wearing a wig is much more socially acceptable than wearing a toupee. Just like getting hair extensions is a lot better than a comb over.

4) Data from the United States Labor Department, women are more likely to graduate from college at the age of 22 than men! No extra semesters!

5) The largest landowner in the world is a woman. That is right, the Queen mum herself, Elizabeth, owns over six billion acres of land between the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, the Falkland Islands, and other small properties strewn around the world. While the next largest landowner is a man, he owns approximately 12 percent of what Queen Elizabeth has!

6) Car insurance tends to be much cheaper for women, because they are 50 percent less likely to have a DWI/DUI then men and 10 percent less likely to have a moving violation. (Again, this could have a lot to do with the fact that we can cry our way out of tickets.)

7) Women are easily able to wear their boyfriend’s clothes, but you will never see a guy in his girlfriend’s skin tight jeans or 5 inch high heels.

8) Women are less likely to have acne during their teenage years than men.

9) Women own their feelings….sometimes with alcohol and food, but we own them none-the-less.

10) Let’s face it, women are amazing!

This is another piece in our month long celebration of women. Please check out all the unique jewelry available for Women’s History Month.
