Oscars 2013

Autumn here blogging about Hollywood's biggest night: the Oscars! Let's get talking fashion!

Amy Adams wearing Oscar de la Renta
Amy Adams wearing a classic Oscar de la Renta looking gown and looking good.
Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille
I like Zoe Saldana and I like the designer Alexis Mabille, but I do not like this combination. This dress is not working for me.
Anne Hathaway in Prada
Anne Hathaway won a much deserved Oscar tonight but she did not win best dressed; Usually she looks fantastic, but I did not like this pale pink Prada dress and don't people see that it is the kind of dress that wrinkles and looks awful in pictures?? Whoever chose this is clueless.

Amanda Seyfried in Alexander Mcqueen
No one can wear Mcqueen and ever look bad. Amanda Seyfried looks amazing as usual.
Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive
Jessica Chastain looks good, but eh, kind of boring? I was expecting something dramatic from you! I guess no one can beat last year's Alexander Mcqueen. It's okay, it makes up for this year and the next 50 as well.

Naomi Watts in Giorgio Armani
If you are going to do Armani, do it like this. Are you listening Jessica Chastain? Naomi Watts always knows how to pick the best dresses.

Jennifer  Lawerence in Dior
No one had any doubts Jennifer Lawerence would chose Dior as her dress, being the face of the Miss Dior campaign, but the question on everyone minds was which dress? She chose a winner with this Dior couture gown. She looks brilliant.
Jennifer Aniston in Valentino
Of all the gorgeous Valentino dress Jennifer Aniston had to choose this boring one? Snooooze.
Charlize Theron in Dior
Charlize Theron is simply stunning
Adele in Jenny Peckham
All for Adele but she always wears different forms of the same dress? During the show and accepting her Oscar for original song, Adele changed into a shorter Burberry version of basically the same dress.
Reese Witherspoon in Louis Vuitton
The color-fantastic! The cut-just no! It's so unflattering.
Kristen Stewart in Reem Acra
Kristen Stewart looked stunning in Reem Acra but can I ask the question we are all asking? What was up with the bruises and crutches she was sporting?
Sandra Bullock in Elie Saab
Big fan of Elie Saab, so it always makes me happy when someone wears it. Sandra Bullock looks great.
Kerry Washington in Miu Miu
Coral dress? Miu Miu on the red carpet? What a breath of fresh air from the beiges and blacks!
Catherine Zeta Jones in Zuhair Murad
Catherine Zeta Jones is looking good as she always does.
Jennifer Hudson in Roberto Cavalli
A dramatic Roberto Cavalli dress, I like it a lot!
Jane Fonda in Versace
Jane Fonda always knows how to bring on the drama and limelight.
Olivia Munn in Marchesa
My first reaction when seeing this Marchesa dress was "Yes someone wore it!" It's so fabulous it had to be done.
Kelly Rowland in Donna Karan Atelier
Kelly Rowland wears a simple gown with a dramatic flair. I love it.
Sally Field
I can't find who her dress designer is but who cares she looks great!

Don’t Throw Away Your Valentine’s Day Flowers, Recycle Them into Something New!

Some dried flowers, fresh flowers and a lovely name necklace!

Valentine’s Day has come and gone and now you have a beautiful bouquet of flower sitting in a vase for everyone to see! Flowers on this special day are a very romantic gesture, and every time you walk by them, you are instantly reminded of your sweetie! But after a week or so, the flowers start to wilt and the only thing you can think of is to throw them away! (And this is surely now a symbol of your love and affection for your significant other!) Sure, you have some other great gifts, including a beautiful name necklace or another piece of personalized jewelry, but you want to keep the flowers as well in some form. If you are thinking your only option is to throw them away, you thought wrong! Here are some great, easy-to-do ideas of what you can do with your Valentine’s Day flowers so you can treasure them much longer!!

Dry the flowers

One of the easiest things to do is to dry your flowers. Tie your flowers together and hang them upside down. This will not only dry the flowers, but also preserve their shape. Then put them back in the vase for a truly unique bouquet.

Turn flower into candles

This is an especially fun craft idea if you like having decorative candles around your house or you know someone who loves candles and has a birthday coming up! Just go to any local craft store and pick up candlewicks, crayons (or if you have any old scraps of candle wax, you can use those), and something to hold the candles, such as shot glasses or glass mugs. Put the crayons or scrap candle wax in a microwave-safe container and heat on low in small intervals until melted. While it is melting, put cooking spray in your glass container. Once done melting, pour the wax into the mold and add bits of flowers while pouring. When the glass is full, put the wick inside and hold it until it can stand on its own. Once hardened, you can leave in the glass container or take it out.

Make some potpourri

Take the flower petals and place them in a sealed jar with a variety of spices, including cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. You can also put other fun things inside the jar like a little bit of glitter, pinecones, and dried berries. Anything that you think would look nice in your potpourri. Also add a bit of dried lavender to maintain the smell of fresh flowers. Once everything is in the jar, close it up tight and put in a dark place for 3-4 weeks. Once it is done and you want to transfer it to a sachet, add just a few drops of an unscented alcohol to allow the fragrances to release.

Make some soap

This is a great idea because it also helps you do something with those small soap remnants that are too small to use to wash your hands but you don’t want to throw away. Take the soap pieces and grate them up. Put the soap in a microwave-safe container and heat it in small intervals until malleable. While forming your new soap, gently press the flower petals into it and then allow it to set. You will have beautiful, homemade decorative soap!

New York Fashion Week- Fall 2013

Autumn from MyNameNecklace here to report about  one of the best times of the year- New York Fashion Week! Over the past week we have seen some gorgeous styles that I can't wait to emulate now and come fall! Here are some of my favorite so far.
DKNY Fall 2013- wearing a K initial necklace.
One of my favorite looks from the DKNY Fall 2013 looks and a good  representation of the collection as a whole. The idea of the collection was a urban 90's gritty cool. As an added bonus to this great look, Donna Karan added a large K initial necklace. I'm always a fan of the personalized look!
Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2013
Marc Jacobs went for collegiate seventies look with his secondary line. I absolutely adore the big hair and preppy yet funky clothing.
Oscar de la Renta Fall 2013
Oscar de la Renta is all about high glamour and there was no lack of it in his Fall 2013 collection. I have to admit that I didn't wholly love the collection, but I really  like this dress.
Jason Wu Fall 2013
Jason Wu is a personal favorite of mine and has been in the spotlight for dressing First Lady, Michelle Obama at both Inaguration balls. I love how Jason Wu designs in sexy yet understated and clean kind of way.
Prabal Gurung Fall 2013
Prabal Gurung is definitely not for the faint of heart. His collection was a edgy military inspired, and I can already see all the fashionista's wearing his leather boot/shoe combination. Prabal Gurung has made headlines recently for his collaboration with Target. Go get it now, because it is sensational and it's always cool to say you have a designer clothes (for a fraction of the price)!
3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2013
It was all about textured layers and leathers at 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2013. Check, check, and check on all the things I love!
Monique Lhuilllier Fall 2013
Monique Lhuillier doesn't design for everyday outings, but her gowns are nothing less than showstopping. This dress takes the cake!
Victoria Beckham Fall 2013
Victoria Beckham, the famed pop star turned successful fashion designer has strayed from her usual lady-like and skin-tight to a more menswear inspired collection and it is fantastic!
Carolina Herrera Fall 2013
Carolina Herrera went for a 40's inspired collection and I love it, especially the hair!

Whew! Well that's it for now, otherwise I could go on for ages. Think that we still have London, Milan and Paris; I might have a fashion overdose (never!).

Enjoy the beautiful clothes, and remember you can never go wrong with a personalized jewelry as an accessory!

Old School Romantic? Try these gifts for Valentine’s Day

V-J Day in Times Square by Alfred Eisenstaedt
Are you an Old School Romantic?

Sometimes we get a little complacent in our relationships, everything becomes “routine.” With Valentine’s Day coming around the corner, it is time to break free of the routine and get romantic. What do women love – they love old school romantic ideas. Not just texting Emoji hearts, but women love those romantic gestures that make their hearts flutter. While we no longer live in the 1950s, these old school romantic gestures will always make a woman feel special, no matter what decade she is living in.

Sing a Song

You do not have to be Lloyd Dobler with a boom box over your head playing her favorite song, sometimes just serenading a girl with a song is enough. You do not need to be a professional singer, a girl will appreciate the gesture no matter how good or bad the guy’s voice is.

Wear Something from Him

Sometimes just wearing his favorite t-shirt or jacket is enough to get a girl’s heart fluttering. It is feeling of him always being close that makes us feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. If you don’t have a jacket, sweatshirt, or shirt that is his, why not wear his name around your neck? Get a name necklace with his name on it and wear it proudly and close to your heart.
The classic name necklace

Write a Love Letter

It can be hard sometimes for men to express themselves in person, so why not put it on paper? Men can put everything they want to say in it and women can treasure it for years and years to come.

Picnics Outside

Grab your favorite blanket, fill a basket of all your favorite food, and take your significant other on a picnic. Whether at the beach, a park, or along a nature trail, sitting and being in the company of the one you love while surrounded by beautiful nature, sipping wine and eating good food, can be très romantic!

Home Cooked Candlelight Dinner

If going outside is not something that sounds exciting, what about a deliciously yummy home cooked meal. Give your significant other a “Kiss the Chef” apron as they cook you your favorite meal in the kitchen. Be sure they don’t forget dessert!!

Remember if these don't fit your style you can always get  Valentine's Day jewelry is always available at MyNameNecklace!
