Birthstone of the Month - July

Hello all you July babies out there! You get to share a birth month with the United States (of course!), Silly Putty, bikinis, Disneyland, and air conditioners, which really makes a whole lot of sense if you ask us! You also have one of the most sought after and expensive (even surpassing diamonds at times!) birthstones of the year - the Ruby! Rubies are distinguished by their bright red color and is desired because of the durability, luster, and of course, its rarity. And while rubies are a part of the sapphire family, it is classified separately from this grouping of gemstones. The word "ruby" comes from the Latin word "ruber," which means red. Rubies are primarily found in Thailand, Myanmar, Tanzania, and Sri Lanka. Other places to find rubies include Brazil, India, Zimbabwe, and even the USA.

A Ruby Ring is Flawless!
The rubies have been seen throughout history. Many historical and religious writings, including Ancient Sanskrit texts, note rubies as the most precious gem. In the Bible, Proverbs 3:!5 states "She is more precious than rubies..." Ancient Hindus believed by offering rubies to Krishna, they were assured rebirth as an emperor. Hindu basic belief associates the ruby with Muladhara, the base chakra concerned with Kundalini, the power of pure desire, spiritual energy, and divine consciousness. Burmese warriors believed rubies made them invincible. Medieval Europeans believed this gemstone offered prosperity, good health, and wisdom. In Feng Shui, rubies bring fire energy.

Rubies are known for being associated with desire and is the stone for love. This is why, today, rubies are becoming a very popular gemstone for engagement rings. Many jewelers are creating beautiful ruby rings. And because rubies are often priced higher than diamonds, a ruby engagement ring is a definite win!
