The MyNameNecklace 2014 Oscar Picks

Our Picks for the 2014 Oscars

You probably already know that on Sunday night March 2nd, the 86th Academy Awards (aka The Oscars) will take place. The annual event features the hottest styles, funny moments, drama, and lots of surprises

People across the globe will be watching to see which designer dresses the stars are wearing, who totally rocked it on the red carpet, and obviously who won such prestigious awards like Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Director.

You will find a recap of the best and worst dressed on our blog next week, but in the meantime here are our picks for the major awards categories:

Best Original Screenplay

This is a packed category, filled with solid candidates, but we think:
Necklace with the inscription Her
from Spike Jones will take the prize.

Best Original Song

Not a lot of competition in this category, and we think "Let it Go" from the movie
Necklace with the inscription Frozen
Frozen Name Necklace
will be the runaway winner.

Best Animated Feature

Having the best original song will definitely not hurt and "Frozen" will also reign supreme.

Best Actor in a Supporting Role

Jared Leto and Jonah Hill were great in their respective roles, but it feels like
Bradley Necklace
Bradley Necklace
Cooper will capitalize on his brilliant performance in "American Hustle"

Best Actress in a Supporting Role

We are absolutely in love with Jennifer Lawrence and her turn as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in "American Hustle", but we feel the fact that she won last year will hurt her with the voters. So we think that
Lupita Necklace
Lupita Necklace
Nyong'o will take the crown for her performance in "12 Years as a Slave".

Best Actress in a Leading Role

"American Hustle" strikes again, as we think
Amy Name Necklace
Amy Necklace
Adams will take home the prize for her portrayal as an English accented

Best Actor in a Leading Role

Although he will face a very tough fight from Matthew McConaughey and his dramatic performance as Ron Woodroof in "Dallas Buyers Club", this is the year that will finally see
Necklace featuring the name leonardo
Leonardo Necklace
DiCaprio break through and win an Oscar after being nominated three times.

Best Director

Probably the toughest category to predict, as all were great films, along with acclaimed directors like David O. Russel, and Alexander Payne. But we think
Necklace with the name Martin
Martin Necklace
Scorsese will reign again (and for a film much better than his previous win with "The Departed").

Best Picture

The most important category and the final award of the evening. With marvelous films like "Forrest Gump", "The Godfather", and "West Side Story", the winner of this category will forever be remembered in the annals of Oscar history. Although they will be disappointed with Chiwetel Ejiofor not winning the Best Actor category, they will be able to celebrate as the final winners of the night, as "12
as a Slave" will take home Best Picture.

Be sure to check back with us on Monday morning as we recap the best of Red Carpet Fashion on the My Name Necklace Blog.

#NYFW Fall 2014

#NYFW has come and gone in a haze. New York Fashion week is the time of the year were all the hottest celebrites, designers, and fashionistas come together to ooh and ahh at the latest trends. And let's be honest, sometimes the clothing is downright wacky!! NYFW also gives us a fun glimpse into what Hollywood will be wearing in the near future, especially at events like the Oscars.

There's a lot to go through but I will do my best to show the top trends of the season.

3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2014
3.1 Phillip Lim combines a modern edge with a flattering cut.
Calvin Klein Fall 2014
Calvin Klein shows us that sweater wear is not only warm and comfortable but fashionable. Who can go wrong with this tweed dress with a punk attitude.
Diane von Furstenberg Fall 2014
Adored the gold selection of dresses in Diane von Furstenberg, especially this worn by Karlie Kloss though the rest of her collection was a plenty with wonderful and bright prints, Diane von Furstenberg's forte.
Donna Karan Fall 2014
Donna Karan brought drama to celebrate her 30 years in the fashion business. She brought on her classic pieces with an attitude this time around.
Jason Wu Fall 2014
Jason Wu took a more menswear approach. Though normally Jason Wu tops my favorite lists, I wasn't whole impressed. I did like that we finally saw warm dressing for fall!
Jill Stuart Fall 2014
Jill Stuart Fall 2014
Jill Stuart Collection was fabulous. It had a bit of reminiscence of Saint Laurent Fall 2013 and I love it.
Marchesa Fall 2014
Marchesa Fall 2014
Marchesa had its ever present elegance. I love this lace piece.
Michael Kors Fall 2014

Nicole Miller Fall 2014

Bonus Round from London Fashion Week, because it is mongrammed:
Burberry Fall 2014

Burberry was bright and bohemian and beautiful. I especially loved the monogrammed capes, as seen here modeled by Cara Delevingne. I can't say no to a monogram item!

Have a Presidential Weekend with this Amazing Sale!

Would George Washington Have Worn a Name Necklace?

We're not really sure, but tomorrow we celebrate Washington's Birthday, which has now been changed to the federal holiday called Presidents' Day. While a shiny silver name necklace wouldn't have been practical when General Washington and his troops crossed the Delaware at night (due to chances of British troops seeing the sparkle at night) it would have been mighty cool for his inauguration ceremony to have a necklace saying "President" or even in modern day slang "Prez"...

Abraham Lincoln also was born during February which is another reason why Presidents' Day is celebrated during this month. What would Lincoln have gotten on his necklace, had he elected to wear one? We were thinking something like "Honest Abe" on this double name necklace, or maybe even "Emancipator"?!?

Better yet, even though both Lincoln and Washington did not have middle names, they still would have been able to enjoy a monogram necklace! This is because all our monogram necklaces can have between one to three initials on them. So even GW or AL would have looked great on them.

So if you have ambitions one day to become the president, or even if you're just the student council president, Presidents' Day is a perfect time to get President, or anything else you want on your necklace. Our weekend sale features exclusive discounts on a variety of jewelry from My Name Necklace:

What Should I Engrave?

Over the years, one of the most often asked questions we receive is what can our customers engrave on our personalized jewelry. Aside from name necklaces and monogram accessories, we have a wide assortment of engravable jewelry, including jewelry for moms, men, and even love jewelry. You can write a name, a date, a word, or even a small phrase. Whether you are looking to find something meaningful to put on a piece of jewelry for yourself or as a gift to someone, the truth is we all can use some inspiration every now and then.

Books, music, movies, and poetry often make for great locations to look for the perfect word or phrase to engrave. And aside from words and phrases you can do lucky numbers, birthdays, anniversaries, or any date that holds some kind of significance to the wearer. Sometimes the symbolism of the item itself can lead to ideas. For example, many people love to put dates and initials on our infinity jewelry products. If your love for someone is infinite, choose an infinity necklace or infinity bracelet and engrave the name of the special someone to keep with your always, the date you first met or got married, or even your initials "+" the person's! For moms, the answer is usually simple - engrave the names of their children. We have a nice selection of some really lovely family tree necklaces, for example! The possibilities are endless!

Here are some great ideas we came up with!

For the literary fiend: Call Me Ishmael

For the movie buff: We'll Always Have Paris

For the adventurer: I've Got a Feeling We're Not in Kansas Anymore

For the hopeless romantic: Love Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry

For someone going away: I'll Be Back

And if you are obsessed with Shakespeare:
- Parting is Such Sweet Sorrow
- Love All, Trust Few, Do Wrong to None
- It is a Risk to Love
- A Rose By Any Other Name

Take a look at a few of these examples!

Still trying to figure out what to engrave on your necklace? Well, here are some ideas on what NOT to engrave!
